Powerline Extender – What are they and how can you take full advantage of them for your activity?

NO, this time we are not talking of a new painting cycle, but of a new little electronic device that could help you to be a little more efficient in your working cycle.

How many times have you asked yourself “Have they formulated a variant that is closer to the colour of this car?” Or have you thought “If I had internet here in my paintbox, I shouldn’t go back to the office to read the technical data sheet of this clearcoat…”

We think that a good internet connection, able to give you information you need when and where you need it, could be the right answer to these questions. If you agree with me, keep on reading this article. We propose you a possible method to reach this important result.

If your workspace obtained the certification 'Risk free', namely a space where there is no explosion risk and so you did not have to ask for specific equipment that satisfies the requirements of ATEX regulation (for example scales and mixing machines), having internet can be even easier than in the past: you can exploit the potential of a Powerline Extender just having a normal socket in the Paintbox. The operating principle of a POWERLINE EXTENDER such as 99 480 is the possibility to deliver signal of your internal network to electrical cables and make it useable through normal 'wall' outlets.

Convenient, isn’t it?

What do you need to use a Powerline Extender?

  • a LAN/ethernet port available in your modem/router;
  • two free sockets, one close to your modem/router and the other one in the paintbox, near your PC with Lechler MAP.

Your wiring will do the rest.

Easy, isn’t it?

Let’s see now how to proceed. First of all

  • Connect the transmitter (TL-PA4010) to the LAN port of your modem/router.
  • Insert the transmitter into a wall outlet next to your modem/router.
  • Verify that Power and Ethernet LEDs turn on.

First step done! Now:

  • Insert the receiver (TL-WPA4220) into a wall outlet next to your transmitter.
  • Push the PAIR button on the receiver and the transmitter.
  • Verify that the Powerline LED of both devices turn on.

At this point, you are ready to move the receiver on the paintbox, and when the Powerline LED turns on again permanently, you could use one of your embedded LAN ports to connect your PC with Lechler MAP to the network.

All done? Sure!
To ensure everything runs well, you have to follow some simple instructions:

  • Do not use power strips or extension cords, but please use a direct connection of both transmitter and receiver into a wall socket.
  • Position the powerline adapters on the same electrical circuit. The presence of counters, differentials or thermal magnetic circuit breakers among adapters could limit or even stop the frequencies for data transfer.
  • If after you positioned the receiver, the Powerline LED does not turn on, it is possible that the socket you used belongs to another section of your electrical power system or distance between the transmitter and the receiver is higher than 300mt linear meters (only very rarely “wired” distance between two sockets is the same as “linear” distance). Relocate the receiver until you find the right position.

There is still something you should know: you can use the receiver included in this kit also as a Wi-Fi access point, so it could be even more useful if you cannot position it in Paint-Box, but just near to it. If you are interested in using this function, have a look at the documentation attached to the article.
