Colour is a language that continues to evolve. Technological, cultural and artistic changes have always influenced the domestic landscape in our homes and surrounding environments. The analysis of past products revealed that significant colour changes are recorded in cycles which means that general colour preferences for the near future can be predicted with a fair degree of accuracy.
Defining new scenarios is an essential aspect of Color Design and contributes to determining the quality of home environments, architectural features of buildings and the commercial success of an industrial product.
The Color Design Project by Lechler, organized in partnership with the industrial designer Francesca Valan, provides indications, suggestions and technical information to make choosing colour and finishes easier.
Projects that are included in Lechler Color Design:
Among the 89 workers which have been selected by the International Scientific Committee, coming from 19 different countries, 45% from Universities and Research Institutes and 55% from Industry, it is important to underline the research made by the Lechler S.p.A R&D Laboratories in cooperation with the Ca Foscari University Sciences for Environment Department and the Interuniversity National Consortium Chemical for the Environment (INCA). The work completed deals with the idea, synthesis and development, characterisation and use of the new co-solvents with high efficiency and low impact on the environment for water based painting with high performance. A particular reference is made to the International patent taken out by Lechler S.p.A and Interuniversity National Consortium Chemical for the Environment (INCA)*.

The research activities were conceived during the VI Programme for Research promoted by the European Union inside the Solvsafe Integrated Project( 2005-2009 ).The Solvsafe project, which is conceived on the basis of the macro objectives defined by the OECD Committee for the Environment and Sustainable Development, is an European platform for innovation with the creation of new scientific ideas to improve the Environment and the industrial process in five different fields, among which is included paints and coatings. The main objectives of the Solvsafe project focus on the reduction of the quantity and number of dangerous solvents used in the industrial processes, the reduction of the VOC emissions in the, the reduction of CO2 emissions, the utilisation of renewable and eco-friendly materials.
